Wind is what most jackets fail at

Wind is what most jackets fail at

Wind is the thing a jacket has to stop first, and it is where a knit or a loose weave gives up. Moving air strips warmth off skin far faster than still cold air does, so a tightly woven shell at 200 g out-performs a thick fleece that lets the wind through.

Every shell here is woven for that reason. Polyester carries most of the range, with a softshell at 92.4% polyester and 7.6% spandex where movement matters more than pure wind resistance.

Length, sleeve and cover

Body length at size M runs 60 cm on the Oversized Zip Jacket to 74 cm on the Lightweight Jacket Wind-Resistant. Sleeve runs 56 cm on the fleece-lined Baseball Jacket to 80 cm on the Sun Protection Jacket.

Chest at size M spans 110 cm on the Lightweight Outdoor Softshell to 134 cm on the Cooling Hoodie, so read the number and not the letter. All thirteen carry a full size chart, sizes reach XS to 2XL, and shoots use a 187 cm model or taller. Wash cold and keep coated shells out of a hot dryer.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a thin shell beat a thick fleece in wind?

Moving air strips warmth off skin. A tight weave blocks it. A fleece traps air but lets wind pass straight through the structure.

How long are these jackets?

Body length at size M runs 60 cm to 74 cm. Shorter sits at the hip, longer covers the seat and blocks more wind on a bike.

Are any of them stretchy?

The softshell runs 92.4% polyester with 7.6% spandex, and that is the one to take if you need to move as well as stay dry.

How should I wash a coated shell?

Wash cold, and skip the dryer. Heat is what breaks down a water-repellent finish, faster than the washing itself does.
