What oversizing does to a placket

What oversizing does to a placket

Oversized changes what a placket has to do. On a close-cut henley the buttons sit under tension and the opening holds itself shut. Widen the chest and that tension disappears, so the placket falls open unless it is cut short and set high.

This one is drafted for it. A 116 cm chest against a 65 cm body is a wide, short ratio, and the shoulder is dropped to 58 cm so the seam lands on the upper arm.

Chest against body, at size M

At size M the chest is 116 cm, the body 65 cm, the shoulder 58 cm and the sleeve 54 cm. Sizes run M to XL and it carries a full size chart with a recommended weight band alongside each size.

Fabric is 96% polyester with 4% spandex. The spandex matters on an oversized cut, because a wide body with no recovery bags out at the elbows and stays there. Wash cold and let it hang dry.

Short sleeves and plain long sleeves

For the short-sleeve version and the rest of the placket cuts see henleys.

For long sleeves without a placket see long-sleeve t-shirts and long-sleeve shirts.

Measurements come from the manufacturer's flat size table for each garment, converted to centimetres and mapped onto one size ladder. Available for 1 of the 1 garment here, last checked 2026-09-11. How we measure.

Frequently asked questions

How oversized is it?

A 116 cm chest against a 65 cm body at size M, with the shoulder dropped to 58 cm so the seam lands on the upper arm.

Will the placket gape?

It is cut short and set high for exactly that reason. A wide chest removes the tension that holds a standard placket closed.

Why polyester and spandex?

The 4% spandex gives recovery. An oversized body with no stretch bags out at the elbows after a few wears and never returns.

What size band does it cover?

M to XL, with a recommended weight band printed alongside each size on the chart.
