What to check before you buy

A noragi is the tied work jacket of rural Japan: a straight body, wide sleeves and a front that crosses over and ties. Our guide to the noragi covers its history. Four things decide which one is right for you.

What to check What it changes
Fabric Cotton and cotton-linen for spring and summer. Denim, corduroy or wool for autumn.
Closure Ties only, or a tie with a button loop. Both stay closed when you move.
Sleeve 3/4 sleeves look more traditional. Full sleeves wear like an ordinary jacket.
Price About $35 to $60 entry level, $90 to $170 specialist, $475 and up vintage.

Our noragi range

Every product page has a size chart in centimetres.

All of them sit in our noragi collection.

How a noragi should fit

A noragi sits at the hip, with dropped shoulders and room through the body. You should be able to wear a hoodie under it. Size by the chest. Our Tied Noragi Jacket measures 51 cm flat across the chest at XS and 64 cm at XXL, so double those figures for the full chest. If you sit between sizes, take the larger one: a noragi is meant to hang loose.

Wear it over a plain tee with straight or wide trousers. It also works with hakama pants for a fully Japanese outfit.
