A souvenir jacket in the Yokosuka tradition of Japan. Raijin, the thunder god, is embroidered across the back inside his ring of taiko drums. The bomber shape carries a ribbed collar, ribbed cuffs and a ribbed hem.

Raijin is one of the most recognisable figures in Japanese art, drumming up storms from the clouds, and placing him across the back of a souvenir jacket follows a tradition that started when the first sukajan were stitched for visitors to the port of Yokosuka in the late 1940s. Two versions

Black is the unlined shell. Black Padded adds a wadded lining for colder weather. Pick the padded one if you want it as your main winter jacket.

Relaxed through the chest and sleeve, with a ribbed hem. Sizes run XS to XL. Our model is 188 cm and wears M. The supplier publishes no measurement chart for this piece.

Fabric and care

Polyester with a matte shell. Zip front and welt pockets. Follow the care label, and wash it inside out to protect the embroidery.

How to wear it

Wear it over a grey hoodie in winter or a white tee in spring. Dark trousers keep the focus on the back.

The matte shell sets this one apart from the shiny satin most people picture on a sukajan. It reads more like a workwear bomber and fits everyday outfits more easily, while the embroidery on the back keeps the souvenir spirit.
