What a pleat is doing for you
Pleats add room where you sit down. Folded fabric at the waistband releases across the hip and thigh when you bend, so a pleated trouser gives you the room of a much wider cut while keeping a clean line standing up.
Direction matters. A forward pleat opens toward the pockets and reads traditional. A reverse pleat opens toward the hip and sits flatter under a shirt.
From suiting to sweatpants
The Wide Leg Pleated Suit Trousers are the dressiest pair. Two deep forward pleats, a flat waistband with a hook closure and a 61 cm opening at size M, in 79.6% polyester and 20.4% viscose. Dry clean them.
The Pinstripe Wide Leg Trousers have a washed, vintage stripe and a 49 cm opening. The Belted Drape Trousers close on a self belt with a square buckle, so the waist adjusts. The Pleated Wide Leg Sweatpants put the same front pleats on a soft 87.1% polyester knit with 4.9% spandex.
Double pleated, crinkle, curved-seam and linen-blend drape cuts fill out the rest, along with wide culottes.
Fit and care for a pleated trouser
Pleats should lie flat when you stand. If they pull open, the waist or hip is too small, so size up. Take your usual size otherwise. Sizes run XS to XL across the group. Most pairs wash cold and hang dry. Hang them by the hem to keep the pleat.
