Open-front haori cut loose and hip length with wide 3/4 sleeves.
A Japanese haori is the short jacket worn open over everything else. This one is cut light for summer, with wide 3/4 sleeves and no closure. The thin polyester weave layers over a tee without adding heat.
In Japan, the haori began as a coat worn over the kimono, a layer that added formality without being fastened, and today it has become a relaxed open jacket for warm days, the easiest way to add a Japanese line to a tee and trousers without wearing anything traditional head to toe. Open. Light.
Fit and sizing
Loose and hip length. Sizes run XS to XXL. The supplier publishes no measurements. The cut is loose, so take your usual size.
Fabric and care
96% polyester, 4% other fibres, thin open weave. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, or hand wash cold. Hang to dry.
Colours
Blue, light grey, dark grey, black and white.
How to wear it
Open over a white tee with wide trousers. Over shorts on a summer evening. Over hakama-style pants.
Good to know
A haori is always worn open. There is nothing to fasten.
Light grey and white feel cooler in the sun. Black and dark grey are easier to style in town.
Light summer haori jackets like this one are a simple way to add structure to warm-weather outfits.
Wear it with the sleeves pushed up on hot afternoons. The open front lets air move freely, so it stays comfortable even in the middle of summer.
Pairs well with the shinbo harem pants and the tie-side wrap pants. Also in the same family: the southwestern jacquard haori jacket.
More layers sit in haori jackets and Japanese jackets. Our haori guide explains the history.
