Relaxed fit with extra room through the silhouette.
A haori jacket for men in a thick cotton jacquard, woven all over with a southwestern pattern of diamonds and horizontal bands. The collar band runs plain down both fronts. The jacket crosses over and ties at the waist with a single cord. No buttons.
The weave carries the pattern inside the cloth, not printed on top, so the diamonds and bands stay sharp after years of washing and look the same on both the face and the back of the fabric when the front falls open. Heavy and warm. Built for cooler days.
Colours
Navy, with grey, teal and burgundy in the weave. Or grey, with charcoal, olive and burgundy. Navy reads darker and dressier. Grey is softer and easier with light trousers.
Fit and sizing
Loose and boxy, hip length, with a dropped shoulder and wide long sleeves. Sizes XS and S. Our model wears S. The supplier publishes no measurement chart for this piece, so take your usual size.
Fabric and care
100% cotton, heavyweight. Wash cold, inside out, with like colours. No bleach. Hang to dry.
How to wear it
Let the pattern lead. Wear it over a plain black tee with dark trousers and boots. Tie it for a closed jacket. Leave it open in a warm room.
Jacquard this heavy keeps its shape on the hanger and on the body. The fronts fall straight when open, and the cord pulls them into a clean cross when tied. It is warm enough for an autumn evening without a coat.
Pairs well with the monpe balloon pants and the belted a-line hakama pants. Also in the same family: the long haori coat.
The haori jacket guide explains the shape. Other cuts sit in haori, and our guide to Japanese patterns covers the motifs you will see on Japanese jackets.
