Short noragi work jacket with a crossover tie front, patch pockets and 3/4 sleeves.

This Japan noragi keeps the old work-coat cut: a crossover front with ties and two big patch pockets. It is a cotton blend with 10 to 15% polyester and a cotton lining. It is cut short at the hip with 3/4 sleeves.

The noragi was the field jacket of rural Japan, worn by farmers over everyday clothes, cut from simple cloth and tied shut so nothing caught on tools, and the same practical shape has become one of the best-loved Japanese layers outside Japan because it is easy, light and goes with almost anything. Tied. Practical.

Fit and sizing

Relaxed fit. The flat chest measures 51 cm at XS, 55 cm at M and 64 cm at XXL, so double it for the full chest. Lengths run 70 to 78 cm. Our model is 188 cm and wears M. Allow 1 to 2 cm.

Fabric and care

Cotton blend with 10 to 15% polyester, cotton lining. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, or hand wash cold. Hang to dry.

Colours

Army green, burgundy, navy and black.

How to wear it

Over a tee with corduroy pants. Over a hoodie in autumn. With harem pants for a full Japanese look.

Good to know

The cotton lining makes it warmer than an unlined noragi. A good three-season layer.

Navy echoes the traditional indigo noragi. Army green is the workwear option.

A noragi pairs with almost every kind of trouser, from jeans and chinos to wide hakama-style pants. The short length keeps the proportions balanced, and the patch pockets are big enough for a phone and keys.
