A hanten is the short padded jacket Japanese families wear at home in winter. Ours keeps the crossed kimono-style collar and the warm, boxy shape. It closes with snaps, has zip hand pockets and raglan sleeves with elastic cuffs.

The traditional hanten is quilted cotton worn over a kimono or pyjamas on cold evenings, and this version takes it outdoors with a ripstop polyester shell and a cotton padding, so it keeps the comfort and the look of a Japanese house jacket while standing up to wind, rain and a busy street. Fit and sizing
Loose and boxy, hip length. The chest measures 126 cm at XS, 134 cm at M and 138 cm at L. Lengths run 71 to 77 cm. The raglan sleeve, measured from neck to cuff, runs 75.5 to 81.5 cm. The supplier suggests XS for 160 to 170 cm, M for 175 to 180 cm and L for 180 to 185 cm. Our model is 189 cm and wears M.
Fabric and care
Shell: 100% polyester ripstop. Padding: cotton, as listed by the supplier. Hand wash cold or machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. Do not tumble dry. Hang to dry in the shade.
Colours
Black or army green.
How to wear it
Over a hoodie and wide trousers. Over a knit with jeans. At home over loungewear, as intended. Snap it shut and you are warm.
