A plant indigo frog closure Tang jacket in heavyweight 100% cotton. The plant-indigo dye gives a deep indigo tone. Handmade frog closures and a stand collar keep the front neat. A diamond-quilted panel covers the lower back.
The Tang jacket is a classic Chinese garment with a stand collar and knotted fabric buttons called frog closures, and dyeing it with plant indigo gives every piece a slightly uneven, living colour that deepens and softens over the years, the opposite of a flat synthetic dye. Indigo. Handmade.
Fit and sizing
Structured fit with a straight body. Sizes XS and S. Our model wears M in the photographs.
Fabric and care
100% cotton, plant-indigo dyed. Wash cold with similar colours, as natural indigo can release some dye in the first washes. No bleach. Tumble dry low.
How to wear it
Over a white shirt. With wide black trousers. Under a heavier coat in winter.
Good to know
Plant indigo fades gently with wear, and the patina is part of the appeal.
Frog closures are knotted by hand, so each one is slightly different.
Indigo has been used to dye cloth in China and Japan for centuries, prized for its deep blue and its natural resistance to insects. The quilted lower back adds warmth where a jacket usually lets the cold in, and the structured cut keeps the collar standing neatly all day.
Only two sizes are made.
