Chore jackets came off a French workwear pattern, and the shape has barely moved in a century. Square body, four patch pockets, no darting, and a collar cut to sit flat under a scarf. It was designed to go over other clothes and nothing about it has needed fixing since.
The Detroit variant tightens that up. Shorter body, cleaner pocket placement, and a hem that stops at the belt instead of covering the seat.
The Detroit, measured
At size M it runs 62 cm long with a 128 cm chest, a 58 cm shoulder and a 58 cm sleeve. A 128 cm chest against a 62 cm body is a deliberately square ratio, so it layers over a hoodie without pulling across the back.
The shell is a polyester fiber, so it sheds a shower and dries fast where a cotton chore coat would soak. Sizes run S to 2XL and it carries a full size chart. Wash cold, hang dry, done.
