- Male model wears size M
These samurai trousers borrow the outline of kendo hakama and build it on an ordinary trouser. A fixed front panel falls over the leg and holds its drape as you walk. Underneath sits a wide trouser with belt loops, a mid waist and welt pockets at the back.
So you get the hakama look without the ties. They go on like any pair of trousers. The panel is sewn in place, so it never needs arranging. The matte weave has a fluid weight and swings with each step, so even a short walk to the station shows off the panel the way a hakama is meant to move. Easy.
Fit and sizing
Sizes run XS to XL. The leg runs full to the hem and sits long over the shoe. Our model is 188 cm and wears M. The supplier gives a recommended size chart only, so take your usual trouser size. If you sit between two, go up for more drape at the hem.
Fabric and care
The fabric is polyester, matte and fluid. It does not crease much, and dries quickly after a wash. Follow the care label.
How to wear them
Black is the only colour. It suits the shape, and it means the panel, the pleats and the wide leg read as one clean outline from across the street instead of breaking into separate pieces of cloth. Wear them with a black tee and a short jacket for the city. A loose white shirt gives a softer, summer version. Tabi socks or plain trainers keep the hem the focus.
The kendo hakama was built for footwork. Wide legs hid the feet from an opponent, and the panel stayed put through every lunge. Ours keeps the silhouette for the street. It also keeps the comfort of a wide leg on a hot day.
Wondering what to call them? What are samurai pants called answers it, from hakama to umanori. Every pleated cut we carry is in hakama pants, and more black shapes in darkwear.
