Choosing a yukata
Yukata or kimono
A yukata is the summer, everyday member of the kimono family: unlined, lighter, and worn on its own rather than over an under-kimono. Yukata vs kimono explains the difference in full.
The yukata here
In cotton, a plain blue yukata and a white yukata with a fine stripe, both sold without a belt. In polyester, a green yukata with fine stripes, a white kimono in a yukata cut with a tonal check, and a plain light blue kimono in the same cut, all three with a simple belt included.
Sizing a yukata
A yukata wraps, so the waist is set by how you tie the belt and the length matters most. The cotton pair come in XS and S, the maker's Asian M and L relabelled to US sizing, and the polyester ones are one size. Each product page lists what the maker publishes.
What to wear with a yukata
Tie the belt low at the hips and add split-toe tabi socks with sandals. For lounging at home rather than going out, see Japanese loungewear and jinbei sets.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a yukata and a kimono?
A yukata is an unlined summer kimono in cotton or a light synthetic, worn on its own with a simple belt. A formal kimono is lined, made of heavier cloth and worn over an under-kimono.
How should a men's yukata fit?
It should reach the ankle or just above, wrap left over right, and be belted low at the hips. The waist is set by how you tie the belt.
Which side goes on top?
The left side wraps over the right, for men and women alike. Right over left is only used to dress the dead.
Do these yukata come with a belt?
The three polyester yukata come with a simple belt. The two cotton yukata do not, so pair them with a kaku obi or any narrow belt.
